Visa U.S. Business Visa Case Intake

Route: U.S. B-1 business visitor visa — apply immediately

Wait times and the application fee change without notice. Figures here were checked on 2026-09-20 against the State Department wait-time table, which read 7.5 months for Karachi ten days earlier — treat both as approximate and verify at travel.state.gov and in the Pakistan appointment system before relying on them.

1. Apply now — ordered application sequence

Critical path

Start today. Do these in order. Steps 2, 5 and 6 are what unlock everything else — State will not consider an expedited appointment until the DS-160 is submitted, the fee is paid, and the first available regular appointment is booked.

Do not wait until an expedite letter is perfected before starting the DS-160. The expedite request cannot be considered until those three steps are finished, so starting them is what buys the time.

  1. Assemble the DS-160 inputs

Current passport, any prior U.S. travel, roughly five years of international travel history, education and employment history, a proposed itinerary, and a digital visa photograph.

  2. Complete Form DS-160 online

At the official Consular Electronic Application Center: ceac.state.gov. Select the Pakistan post where the interview will take place — compare Islamabad and Karachi and choose whichever appointment system offers the better practical opportunity.

  3. Submit the DS-160 and save the confirmation page

Print or save the barcode confirmation page. It is required for the rest of the process and at the interview.

  4. Create the Pakistan visa appointment account

At the official appointment service: ustraveldocs.com/pk. Enter passport details and the DS-160 confirmation number exactly as they appear on the application.

  5. Pay the US$185 application fee

Non-refundable. Follow the Pakistan appointment system's payment instructions and keep the receipt or reference number. Verify the current amount before paying.

  6. Book the first available regular appointment — even if it falls after 6 November

Essential, and not to be skipped in favour of waiting for an emergency slot. State will not consider an expedite until the DS-160 is submitted, the fee is paid, and a regular appointment is booked.

  7. Check repeatedly for earlier appointments

Cancellations and newly released slots appear regularly, and an existing appointment can be moved into an earlier slot. Watch both posts the Pakistan system permits.

  8. Only now: evaluate whether a truthful expedite request exists

See section 2. The conference on its own is not a basis for one.

Do not buy non-refundable flights or hotels until the visa is issued. State gives no guarantee of issuance and advises against final travel arrangements before the visa is in hand.

2. U.S. B-1 Business Visa — Expedited Interview Strategy

Applicant
Pakistani national — name held in the private case record
Primary U.S. travel
24th Annual St. Louis Fed Professors Conference, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, One Federal Reserve Bank Plaza, St. Louis, Missouri 63102
Conference dates
November 5–6, 2026
Visa classification
B-1 business visitor / B-1/B-2 visitor visa, as appropriate in the U.S. visa appointment system

Why expedited processing may be necessary

Current normal B-1/B-2 interview availability in Pakistan may extend beyond the November 5–6, 2026 conference dates. Availability changes without notice — verify against the official wait-time table and the Pakistan appointment system before relying on this.

  1. Complete Form DS-160 immediately.
  2. Pay the applicable MRV visa application fee.
  3. Schedule the first available regular visa interview.
  4. Continue checking for earlier appointment openings.
  5. After scheduling the normal appointment, request an expedited interview only if the facts support a qualifying urgent business circumstance.
  6. Submit documentary evidence supporting the request.

Scheduling the first available regular interview is normally required before submitting an expedited appointment request.

Step-by-step procedure

  1. 1

    Complete the DS-160

    Official website: ceac.state.gov/GenNIV.

    • Complete the DS-160 accurately.
    • Identify the principal purpose of travel as temporary business / professional travel.
    • Identify the St. Louis Fed conference accurately.
    • Save the DS-160 Application ID.
    • Print or save the DS-160 confirmation page and barcode.

Do not describe the applicant as a Federal Reserve presenter unless an actual presentation invitation exists. The confirmed record is registered attendee.

  2. 2

    Pay the visa application fee

Follow the official U.S. visa appointment system instructions for Pakistan and retain proof of payment.

  3. 3

    Schedule the first available appointment

Book the first available B-1/B-2 interview even if the appointment date occurs after November 5–6, 2026. This establishes eligibility to subsequently request an expedited appointment through the appointment system.

  4. 4

    Look for earlier appointments

Check the appointment calendar frequently — cancelled or newly released interview appointments may become available, and an existing appointment can be moved into an earlier slot.

  5. 5

Submit an emergency / expedited appointment request

An emergency request must be based on truthful, documented facts. Use the category “Urgent Business Travel” only when the underlying circumstances actually satisfy the U.S. government’s expedite criteria.

Conference attendance alone is not an emergency — and Mission Pakistan says so by name. Attendance at an annual business, academic, educational, or professional conference ordinarily does not, by itself, qualify for an expedited visa appointment. The official Pakistan expedited-appointment page goes further than the general rule: it lists travel for the purpose of “participating in business/academic/professional conferences” among the categories that do not qualify, and directs such applicants to schedule a regular appointment well in advance. That is a published exclusion covering this exact fact pattern, not an inference from silence. Do not claim that the St. Louis Fed conference itself constitutes an emergency. If a separate unforeseen and time-sensitive U.S. business requirement exists, describe that requirement accurately and provide supporting documentation — that, and not the conference, is the only basis on which an expedite is arguable. Checked 2026-09-20.

Before submitting the request

The Emergency Request option appears in the appointment account only after the normal appointment is booked. The standard expedited-appointment request is free.

Fraud warning — the US$750 “Paid Expedite” is not available in Pakistan. The State Department runs a Nonimmigrant Visa Expedited Appointment Pilot Program through 31 December 2026, under which eligible B-1/B-2 applicants at participating posts only may pay US$750 per appointment for an interview within 10 business days. As checked on 2026-09-20 the participating posts are Mission Mexico, Mission Canada, and the embassies in Bogotá, Guatemala City, San José and Tegucigalpa. Pakistan appears on no participating list.

So: if anyone — an agent, a fixer, or a contact on social media or a messaging app — claims that US$750 buys an emergency appointment in Karachi or Islamabad, that is false and no money should be paid to them. The option does not exist at these posts, no agent can obtain appointments that are not available through the official portal, and the legitimate Emergency Request costs nothing. If a “Paid Expedite” option is not displayed inside the applicant’s own appointment account, it is not available to her. State has said further posts may be added during the pilot, so re-check the official page before concluding anything — but never assume participation.

Supporting evidence

This page is publicly reachable, so it carries no applicant name, passport number, registration confirmation number, or patent application number. Those stay in the private case record and are pasted into the DS-160, the appointment system and the expedite request directly from it.

1. Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis letter

Dated September 8, 2026 — confirms:

  • The applicant is a registered attendee — not a presenter.
  • 24th Annual St. Louis Fed Professors Conference.
  • November 5–6, 2026.
  • Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
  • A registration confirmation number (kept in the private case record, not published here).
  • Identified as Chief Operating Officer, Council for Education; Chairwoman, International Committee of Fiat Currency.
  • Signed by the Assistant Vice President, Economic Education, Research Division.

Strong independent evidence of legitimate and fixed U.S. professional travel dates. The letter does not establish an emergency by itself.

2. USPTO provisional patent application

Application No.
Held in the private case record
Title
CBMAS™ Cross Border Monetary Arbitrage Scheme (CBMAS™)
USPTO receipt date
August 11, 2026
First named inventor
The applicant
Application type
Utility — provisional application under 35 U.S.C. §111(b)

Establishes the applicant’s relationship to U.S.-based intellectual-property activity and supports the professional and business context of the travel.

Refer to this only as a U.S. provisional patent application or USPTO provisional patent filing. Never call it an issued patent — no patent has been granted.

What would make the expedite request stronger?

The strongest additional evidence would be a letter from a U.S. organization describing a separate urgent business requirement. Do not invent such a meeting or business loss — include only facts supported by actual documentation. The letter should state:

Sample expedite statement

Sample — use only if factually accurate

Replace each bracketed placeholder from the private case record before use.

[APPLICANT NAME] respectfully requests consideration for an expedited B-1 business visa interview.

[APPLICANT NAME] is a Pakistani national and the first-named inventor on U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. [USPTO APPLICATION NO.] concerning the CBMAS™ Cross Border Monetary Arbitrage Scheme. This is a provisional application, not an issued patent.

She is also a confirmed registered attendee of the 24th Annual St. Louis Fed Professors Conference at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis on November 5–6, 2026 (registration confirmation no. [REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION NO.]).

In addition to the conference, [APPLICANT NAME] is required to participate in a specific time-sensitive U.S. business matter described in the accompanying supporting letter.

The supporting organization explains why her personal participation is required, why the matter cannot reasonably be postponed, and the business consequences that would result if she cannot participate on the scheduled date.

[APPLICANT NAME] respectfully requests an earlier interview appointment so that the Consular Section may consider her B-1 visa application before the scheduled business activities.

Supporting documentation includes:

  • DS-160 confirmation
  • Visa appointment confirmation
  • Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis registration letter
  • USPTO provisional application acknowledgement
  • U.S. business invitation / urgent-business letter
  • Evidence of applicant’s professional position
  • Travel itinerary, if available
  • Evidence of financial ability to pay for the trip
  • Evidence of continuing professional, family, financial, and residential ties outside the United States

End sample

The fourth and fifth paragraphs assert a separate time-sensitive business matter and a supporting letter. Delete them unless that letter actually exists.

  8. Visa interview
  9. Consular decision
  10. Visa issued — not guaranteed
  11. Travel — November 5–6, 2026

An expedited appointment is never guaranteed. Approval of an expedite request only moves the interview date forward — it does not guarantee visa issuance. Eligibility and issuance are decided by the consular officer at the interview.

What the documents prove

DocumentWhat it establishesExpedite value
Federal Reserve letter Confirmed November 5–6 professional event and legitimate U.S. travel purpose Strong supporting evidence, but the conference alone does not establish an emergency
USPTO provisional application The applicant is first-named inventor connected to a U.S. provisional patent filing Supports a legitimate U.S. business and intellectual-property nexus
Urgent U.S. business letter Time-sensitive requirement for the applicant’s participation Potentially the strongest evidence for an Urgent Business Travel expedite request
DS-160 Formal U.S. nonimmigrant visa application Required
Regular appointment confirmation Shows the first available appointment was scheduled Normally required before requesting an expedite

Official sources

Nothing on this page should be read to suggest that the Federal Reserve sponsors this visa application or requested expedited processing, that the USPTO supports the visa application, that the provisional filing is an issued patent, that conference registration guarantees an expedite, or that an expedite guarantees visa approval. None of those is true.
